Book Recommendations

Hello everyone,
As my exams have finished and I've got a teeny more bit of time to myself, I've began reading again and actually enjoying it - not having other things pestering me or always in the forefront of my mind!

Over the years, I've always enjoyed a good little read, on holiday and at home as it gives me a creative outlet in my life, where I can find a little time in my schedule to sit down, relax for a little bit and indulge in fiction - taking me into the world of fantasy and imagination and relieving me of reality!

I'm 17 so my book taste isn't perhaps what you'd call fully 'mature' yet and I tend to reach for chick-flicks the majority of the time as I can enjoy reading them rather than having to think about what I'm reading (if that makes any sense)! I know my friend, Amber loves to read biographies and such of serial killers, but for me anything gory or scary like that I tend to steer well clear of, but I understand everyone is each to their own with the genre preferences.

Anyway, enough of all that waffling, I thought I'd share with you all a few of my most cherished reads and 'series' on my bookshelf! Here we go...

Firstly, my favourite 'series' of books would have to be Sophie Kinsella's 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' series! I absolutely adore the character of Rebecca Bloomwood and her struggles as a shopaholic are all to familiar for me! Sophie Kinsella writes so beautifully too, creating such a realistic and relatable voice to the characters. If you haven't read these books, I believe there are now six in the series then I would definitely recommend them as an easy and enjoyable read. As well as this, the film adaptation of the first two books, starring Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy (twit-twoo!) is utterly fabulous and so funny!

Amazon do a brilliant gift set of all the books so far (I'm hoping Kinsella pops out some more as they're so addictive!): http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=shopaholic+gift+set&tag=googhydr-21&index=stripbooks&hvadid=9486869821&ref=pd_sl_2ex4u5n5ho_b

Another of my favourite all time books is Bridget Jones, it's such an easy read and unlike most books, I think you can read this multiple times without getting bored - you'll find yourself smiling to yourself whilst reading it as for all girls Bridget's life is relatable in one way or another! Helen Fielding definitely writes for all of us girls and gets it down to a tee, her writing is witty and Bridget's character is just so charismatic and down to earth. If you haven't read this, you have no idea what you're missing out on, Helen Fielding is the female version of Shakespeare in this century - filling the diary with topics women are faced with everyday whilst putting an all-too realistic yet cringy spin on things: for those who have read it, blue string - you know what I'm talking about!
Again Amazon have some crackalacking deals on Bridget Jones' Diary and of course who could forget the film! http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_kk_2?rh=i%3Astripbooks%2Ck%3Abridget+jones+diary&keywords=bridget+jones+diary&ie=UTF8&qid=1329232462

Yet another book I've enjoyed reading is 'Personally, I Blame My Fairygodmother,' by Claudia Carroll of which I acquired purely due to WHSmith's little offers, you know the 'Buy one get one half price' one that's been going on for what seems a lifetime! Well, after weeks of it lying untouched on my bookshelf, I decided to go for it and begin reading a book which seemed out of my comfort zone as I had never heard of Claudia Carroll before. Nonetheless I began reading and was pleasantly surprised, I'll insert the blurb here I think..!

The fairytale ending was just the beginning…
Jessie Woods absolutely believes in fairytale endings. So would you if you had a recession-proof career as a daredevil TV host, a palatial pink mansion, and the dream boyfriend. But, quicker than you can say Cinderella, her life falls to pieces and suddenly her prince isn't quite so charming, her party-loving friends disappear and even her faithful friend Visa no longer loves her…Utterly heartbroken and jobless, Jessie is forced back home, to live with her stepmum and two evil stepsisters. Is it time for her to give up on the dream - or will Jessie learn that happy endings can come in the strangest of places?Avon's hot new acquisition presents a tale of princes who turn out to be frogs, Manolo Blahnik glass slippers and not-so-happily-ever-afters.

The book itself is published much to my surprise by Avon Books and after enjoying this read so much, I'm definitely considering other Avon books and exploring Claudia Carroll's portfolio! This book is perfect if you want to escape all seriousness in your life including your job, bills and all such boring adult topics. It's quirky, nonchalant and again in the end, not as far from the truth as you may think!

I hope you enjoyed reading just a snippet of my favourite reads, Amazon do brilliant deals on books these days and you can pick them up at car-boots or charity shops for a fraction of the RRP! Plus, don't you just love the smell and feel of an old book! I hope you enjoy these blog posts, please do let me know!
What are you favourite reads? Any suggestions are more than appreciated!

Georgie xoxo
